State Park Beach Mat Fundraising Project
Few places in the world match the grandeur of our Indiana Dunes. The Friends of Indiana Dunes directly supports two of our country’s most unique and beloved parks, Indiana Dunes National Park and the Indiana Dunes State Park. The Friends of Indiana Dunes continue to sponsor a myriad of family-friendly programs and resource management needs for both parks. In addition, we provide five camperships, event sponsorship, and field supplies to the students at the Dunes Learning Center.
For nearly forty years, these wonderful programs and opportunities have been made possible thanks to the generosity and dedication of Friends of Indiana Dunes members and supporters like yourself. Membership dollars and donations have enabled us to steadily increase our financial support of the parks and give all who visit our Indiana Dunes memorable experiences that will last a lifetime.
This year, we hope to assist the Indiana Dunes State Park with their ADA beach mat project. The Make a Wish Foundation has granted a local young lady, Nadene, her wish to access the water’s edge independently by providing the initial funding for Phase One of this project which will connect both the main and west parking lots to the water’s edge. This ADA beach mat allows a wheelchair/pedestrian-friendly, rigid and non-slip access to the water’s edge.
Phase Two will connect the west parking lot to the Pavilion and provide another access point to the water’s edge. Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 towards this important project.
This ADA beach mat project is a continuation of the Friends of Indiana Dunes dedication to making our parks accessible and enjoyable for all visitors. In the past two years, the Friends have provided funding of more than $20,000 to purchase three accessible all-terrain vehicles for use on the Indiana Dunes State Park trails and a Freedom Trax off-road wheelchair attachment for use at the Indiana Dunes National Park.
